Open Hi Hats

Open hi hats give us the ability to play longer sounds on the drum kit.
This can be a co-ordination challenge since we have to get the left foot and right hand working together.
Open the hi hat as the stick makes contact with the edge of the hi hat.
Close the hi hat on the next beat as you hit the hi hat.
Below are some exercises to get you familiar with adding open hi hats to your grooves.
Exercise A is just the hi hat by itself. Exercise B adds the kick and snare. Exercises C and D add kick variations.
