16th Note Accents
Sunday, March 24, 2019 by Chris McCaig | Lessons
Accents are used to emphasise certain notes in a phrase.
This exercise is used to get you familiar with the 16 possible accent locations in a group of four 16th notes.
You can find this exercise and more variations on page 21 of Basic Drum Kit Studies.
Practice each exercise with a metronome.
All non-accented notes are to be played as low as possible. All accented notes are to be played from a higher position, using the velocity of the stroke to create the accent.
Accents can also be played as rim shots by striking the snare rim (with the centre of the stick) and drum head (with the tip of the stick) at the same time.
