PRACTICE

What To Practice

Based on a 30 minute practice session:

1. Warm Up (5 min)

  • Stick Control or Rudiments, at a comfortable tempo.

2. Technical Work (10 min)

  • Work on your current projects: grooves, fills, reading and technique exercises.

3. Repertoire (15 min)

  • Grade songs and free choice songs.

How To Practice

Precision

  • Focus on playing slowly and precisely.

★★ Endurance

  • Repeat multiple times to develop muscle memory and build endurance.

★★★ Speed

  • Practice with a metronome, gradually increasing the tempo.

★★★★ Dynamics

  • Use dynamics to create contrast.

★★★★★ Application

  • Apply to the drum kit in a musical setting.

How Much To practice

Practice ten minutes a day, multiplied by your level.

Entry Level and Level 1 = 10 minutes a day.

Level 2 = 20 minutes a day

Level 3 = 30 minutes a day etc.

Thirty minutes a day is ideal. This will give you enough time to work on the material given to you in your lesson.

You will see more benefit from short, regular practice sessions, rather than one big session each week.
