What Should I Practice?
Based on a 30 minute practice session:
Warm Up (5 min): Stick Control or Rudiments, at a comfortable tempo.
Technical Work (10 min): Work on your current projects: grooves, fills, reading and technique exercises.
Repertoire (15 min): Grade songs and free choice songs.
How Should I Practice?
Precision: Focus on playing slowly and precisely.
Endurance: Repeat multiple times to develop muscle memory and build endurance.
Speed: Practice with a metronome, gradually increasing the tempo.
Dynamics: Use dynamics to create contrast.
Application: Apply to the drum kit in a musical setting.
How Much Should I Practice?
Practice ten minutes a day, multiplied by your level.
Entry Level and Level 1 = 10 minutes a day.
Level 2 = 20 minutes a day
Level 3 = 30 minutes a day etc.
Thirty minutes a day is ideal. This will give you enough time to work on the material given to you in your lesson.
You will see more benefit from short, regular practice sessions, rather than one big session each week.
What do I need to bring to lessons?
Drumsticks
Drum books
Practice Diary
How do I get to my lesson?
Students in Primary School will be collected from class or can make their own way to drum lessons.
Students in Year 7 and above are responsible for getting themselves to and from their drum lessons on time.
Notify your teacher about your drum lesson and set an alarm on your watch for 5 minutes before your lesson.
CCGS - PAC Studio 10
CCAS - High School Music, Prac Room 3
GPCC - CAPA 15
What happens if I miss a lesson?
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, meaning that lessons cancelled on the day will be forfeited and charged.
Forgetfulness is not considered a reasonable reason for missing your lesson.
When sufficient 24-hours notice is given, the lesson will be rescheduled if possible, or credited towards the next term.
