What do I need to bring to lessons?

  • Drum books

  • Drumsticks

  • Earbuds (wired)

I will give you a plastic sleeve to keep all of these items in. Please bring these to every lesson.

How do I get to my lesson?

Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 will be collected from class and returned after their lesson.

Students in Year 3 and above are responsible for getting themselves to and from their drum lessons on time.

*Year 3-6 students at CCGS will be met at the crossing.

Notify your teacher about your drum lesson and set an alarm on your watch for 5 minutes before your lesson.

CCGS - PAC Studio 10

CCAS - Secondary Music rooms

GPCC - CAPA 15

What happens if I miss a lesson?

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy, meaning that lessons cancelled on the day will be forfeited and charged.

Forgetfulness is not considered a reasonable reason for missing your lesson.

When sufficient 24-hours notice is given, the lesson will be rescheduled if possible, or credited towards the next term.

What do I need at home?

  • Drum Kit and/or Practice Pad

  • Drumsticks

  • Drum books

  • Computer or iPad (for music playback and access to online lessons)

  • Headphones or earbuds

How much should I practice?

Thirty minutes a day is ideal. This will give you enough time to work on the material given to you in your lesson.

If your schedule doesn’t allow this, aim for a minimum of 1 hour per week, multiplied by your current level.

eg. Level 1 = 1 hour per week, Level 2 = 2 hours per week etc.

You will see more benefit from short, regular practice sessions, rather than one big session each week.

What should I practice?

Each student is given a personalised practice plan, focusing on your current projects and repertoire.

Here is an example of a 30 minute practice session:

10 minutes - Rudiments, technique, reading (can be done on a practice pad).

10 minutes - Grooves, fills and solos, independence.

10 minutes - Songs.

In addition to your regular practice, try to set aside some time each week to just play your instrument and have fun.

This could be making up your own beats, experimenting with new ideas or jamming to your favourite songs.

What books do I need?

I will assign books to you based on your drumming level, projects and individual goals.

Your books are included as part of your lesson fees and will be assigned to you as needed.

You have the option to upgrade your Rockschool book to an interactive e-book.

This gives you the ability to jam along with, slow down and loop tricky passages of the pieces in the book.
